TOPIC : YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Scripture :Matthew 5: 14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! According to the Bible, the believers are called by many names such as the way, witness, Christian, disciple etc! Today, we shall be looking at one of such name which our master Jesus Christ address us. And that name is the light!
From our anchor scripture, Jesus said;
Matthew 5: 14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Observed the clause ye are the light of the world was the direct statement of Jesus! He wasn’t saying ye are going to be light or ye shall be light. Rather ye are the light! Remember this was the same title He address Himself:
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
This implies that anyone believes and follows Jesus the light of the world is also light of His own world.
Beloved, isn’t that interesting that we are the light in midst of dark world! This implied that our identity is light and if we are light we must do the work of light in a dark world. We must remember that we have dominion on earth(Gen.1:28) and since the dominion of light over darkness is instant and for ever. Therefore, we shall continue to reign over all the works of darkness in our world.
Who are these people that Jesus address as light?
It is necessary for us to put the record straight that those Jesus called light are His disciples! Those who believed in Him and are ready to ambition and follow Jesus.
Beloved, permit me to ask this question: Are you born again? Has Jesus becomes the Lord over your life? If yes! Then, your new identity is light. If truly you have surrender to the Lordship of Jesus, you ambition, your entire life then you are the one refers to as light of the world.
What is the implications of being light of the world?
1. It means dispell darkness; We must understand that there’s a system of doing things in our world today that is refers to as worldly system. This is a system that is anti Christ and anti-God!
This systems represent darkness as it only support darkness and works of darkness. When you see oppression, armed robbery, kidnapping, ritualist, prostitution etc you know for sure the works of darkness is all around us, we must therefore shine as light in a dark world by our words and our character. (Matt. 5: 14).
Beloved, the strength of light is felt better in darkness. So no matter how dark the world around us is, when we stand as light, the representative of Jesus Christ, we must shine in our respective endeavors/calling/and profession to dispell darkness in our world.
2 . It means provide direction for others:
Luke 1: 79. To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
We provide direction by giving Light to those who seat in darkness! Who are those sitted in darkness? They are the unsaved souls, the confused mind, men and women that are on their way to hell and men who haven’t surrender to the Lordship of Jesus.
Until you are lighted, you cannot provide direction for those who missed their way in life. This is why becoming born again is inevitable because that is the entrance point to the kingdom of light! That’s is the only mechanism of becoming a light to your world.
Please note that intellectual enlightenment does not equal spiritual light! To become light you must be born again. Irrespective of your intellectual prowess, God said you must be born again. It is not to insult your educational pedigree but to stand by the monarch of the universe. You came into the family either by birth or by adoption before you can take the family name. So also, you enter into this family of God only by new birth experience. Please note that educational enlightenment is not equal to new birth in Christ Jesus. If you have the light then you can give directions because you can only give what you have.
Remember this : Heaven is real and hell is real! To spend eternity with God, you must be born again. Give your heart to Jesus today if you haven’t done so.
Prayer points:
– Father thank you for your word to me today.
– Lord, I receive grace to be a light to my world in the name of Jesus.
Prophetic Declaration:
– I prophesy the light of God in you will keep shining over every darkness.
– Every darkness and works of darkness in and around you is hereby swallow up in the name of Jesus.
Assignment: Deliberately decides to answer your name as light by shining your light to your world.
