Exploring the linguistic and cultural landscape of France becomes an enriching endeavor through the English Language Assistants Program.

This initiative, facilitated by the Ambassade de France au Nigeria, beckons individuals from Nigeria to immerse themselves in the educational milieu of France. By infusing the authenticity of their language and the cultural tapestry of their homeland into educational institutions, participants contribute significantly to the global exchange of knowledge and experiences.

English Language Assistants, acting as cultural ambassadors, are strategically placed in primary or secondary schools throughout France. Their primary mission is to enhance students’ communication skills, especially in oral proficiency, while delving into the intricacies of a different civilization and culture.

Collaborating with modern language teachers, assistants support the educational objectives of the school, either by engaging with the entire class under the teacher’s guidance or leading smaller groups independently.

This international mobility opportunity is more than a cultural exchange; it serves as a stepping stone for personal and professional development, imparting invaluable skills and experiences. The role of a language assistant holds the distinction of a non-permanent State agent, requiring a commitment of 12 hours per week. The contractual period spans 7 months, from October 1st to April 30th (with a variation for German assistants).

Aspiring participants must meet specific eligibility criteria for the 2024 English Language Assistants Program:

  • Native speakers of the language they intend to teach in France (including but not limited to German, English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Hebrew, Italian, sign language, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, or Turkish).
  • Completion of the majority of secondary schooling and higher education in the country of application.
  • Age between 20 and 35 as of December 31, 2024.
  • Current university enrollment at the time of application, with some flexibility based on partner countries and institutions.
  • Possession of a diploma equivalent to the 2nd year of the license course (L2) during the application process.
  • Proficiency in the French language at a B1 level on the Common European Framework of References for Languages scale.

The allure of participation extends beyond cultural immersion and educational contribution.

English Language Assistants receive a monthly remuneration of €1,010.67 gross, subject to various mandatory deductions such as social security, resulting in a net income ranging from approximately €800 to €813.

This comprehensive program not only fosters cultural exchange but also provides a tangible professional advantage, making it a valuable opportunity for those seeking international exposure and career enrichment.

The application deadline for the program is January 19, 2024, offering eligible candidates the chance to embark on a transformative journey in the heart of France.
